Youth Scholarship Fund

The AHAA is very pleased to offer one of its youth members a $500 Educational Scholarship!

EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION INFORMATION:

All applications due on or before September 30.

The Appaloosa Horse Association of Alberta (AHAA) has available one $500 scholarship each year for an AHAA member to assist him/her with the financial costs of post secondary education at an accredited institution.

Scholarship selection is based upon involvement in the AHAA and Appaloosa industry, scholastic aptitude, leadership potential, sportsmanship, and community and civic responsibility.

Basic eligibility:

  • Current member of the AHAA

  • Has been a member of the AHAA for at least three consecutive years prior to application.

  • Has been accepted into a post secondary institution

  • Has a grade point average (GPA) of at least 3 on a 4.0 scale or 4.5 on a 6.0 scale.

Complete applications with all attachments must be received by the AHAA no later than September 30. Applications received after this date will not be considered.

The recipient is chosen from among all applications received each year. Each application is reviewed by the AHAA Board of Directors. The AHAA Board of Directors will select the recipient. The scholarship recipient will be notified by November 1 of his/her selection.

The scholarship recipient will be officially announced at the AHAA Annual Awards dinner in November.

Applications will be evaluated based upon the following criteria:

  • 40% based on the applicant’s current and recent past involvement with the AHAA and the Appaloosa Horse industry;

  • 30% based upon the applicant’s family’s current and recent past involvement with the AHAA and the Appaloosa Horse industry;

  • 20% based upon grade point average;

  • 5% based upon extra curricular equine activities;

  • 5% based upon extra curricular school and community activities.

The overall quality of the applicant’s scholarship application including completeness, neatness and information may be considered in choosing a recipient.

A scholarship is to be used within one year of the date of the award. The scholarship will be paid in two parts.

  1. A cheque for $250 will be mailed to the scholarship recipient upon completion of the first semester and achieving a minimum 2.5 GPA;

  2. and a second cheque for $250 will be mailed upon completion of the second semester and achieving a minimum 2.5 GPA.

 

A recipient of an AHAA scholarship may apply for a scholarship in subsequence years.
